Love in the time of Labarang Hajj

The Masque Theatre

18th November 2025

For November's play reading, we're delving into Love in the time of Labarang Hajj by Tasneem Daniels.

The evening will include a table read of the play by actors, followed by a discussion of the work. The discussion will be led by Melanie O'Connor Horn and a panel of experts. Input from the audience is most welcome!

About the play

Ferhana Dramat, aged 30, arrives home to Lansdowne Cape Town from Hajj and after teaching English abroad in the Middle East. She grapples with her dying mother, the undecided future of her teenage siblings Shihaam & Shihaabudien, and Ameer, her childhood best friend with whom she’s in love. Will Ferhana jump ship and sign her new contract to return abroad, or will she stay in her place of origin, marry Ameer and carry her Hajji title with pride?
