The Masque and Milnerton Players are proud to announce that they will be teaming up to bring A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder to Cape Town audiences!

18 June - 5 July 2026 at the Milnerton Playhouse
Rehearsals will begin in January 2026.

The Masque Theatre and Milnerton Playhouse are based in Cape Town and you need to be available (in the city) for the auditions, the rehearsal period and run of the show

If cast, you will need to join both Milnerton and the Masque as a member (you will be given a discounted rate)
This Tony Award-winning production is a murderous romp filled with unforgettable music and non-stop laughs. When the low-born Monty Navarro finds out that he is eighth in line for an earldom in the lofty D'Ysquith family, he figures his chances of outliving his predecessors are slight and sets off down a far more ghoulish path. Can he knock off his unsuspecting relatives without being caught and become the ninth Earl of Highhurst? And what of love? Because murder isn't the only thing on Monty's mind....

What to prepare for the audition:
Once you've completed the form, the song(s) you need to prepare will be emailed to you along with confirmation of your timeslot.
At the audition, you will be asked to do a cold reading of sections from the script.

We're gearing up for our annual Valentine's Soiree and we're looking for some stunning songbirds to serenade our audiences.
Performances:

How to audition:

All auditions will be done via selftape.

Please record yourself singing a Disney song that suits your voice. You must use a backing track.

Include an intro where you talk about your favourite Disney film.

Selftapes are due by Sunday 2 November 2025.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR SELFTAPE:

Be off-script – know the lyrics to your song.

Make sure that you sing with a backing track (you can use YouTube to find something suitable). No acapella will be accepted.

Please film in landscape mode - horizontal.

Shoot in a medium close-up (from the top of the head to below the shoulders) facing the camera lens (never in profile). Also make sure that you have some head room at the top of the shot so that you don't end up going off screen if you move around while performing.

Use a tripod or prop your phone up so that the shot is steady and is at eye level when you record.

Look for a plain background for your self tape - a clean wall is ideal.

Try to use a room with soft furnishings in it - carpets, curtains and blankets. This is will ensure the sound doesn't echo too much while you record.

Don't do any fancy edits - we want to see one take of the full song without any cuts. You can trim the beginning and the end of the clip so that we only see your performance.
