Battle of the Bands 2026 - Auditions Open

The Masque Theatre is once again hosting Battle of the Bands - High School Edition as part of our Youth Day celebrations, and we are inviting high school bands from the Deep South and Southern Suburbs to audition.

Selected bands will perform live at the Masque in a one-night showcase event. Four bands will be chosen to take part in the event.

What selected bands can expect:

Guidance from experienced music industry professionals
The opportunity to perform live at the Masque Theatre
Prizes for participating bands
The chance to be part of a Youth Day event supporting youth arts and theatre

How to audition:

Complete the form below.
Submit a video recording of your band performing one full song (original or cover).
Ensure the video clearly shows all band members performing together.

Open to high school bands (ages 13-18).
Bands must submit a video audition featuring a full song performance.
Only 4 bands will be selected by the event’s coaches.
Selected bands must be available for after hours coaching sessions and rehearsals leading up to the event.
The final live performance is on 16 June 2026 at The Masque Theatre.
This is a fundraising event – no performance fees will be paid.
Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.

The Masque and Milnerton Players are proud to announce that they will be teaming up to bring A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder to Cape Town audiences!

Performances:

20 May - 6 June 2026 at the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg

18 June - 5 July 2026 at the Milnerton Playhouse

Rehearsals will begin in January 2026.

Please note:

This is an amateur production, so there will be no remuneration for cast or crew
No under 18s
You need to have reliable transport
The Masque Theatre and Milnerton Playhouse are based in Cape Town and you need to be available (in the city) for the auditions, the rehearsal period and run of the show
If cast, you will need to join both Milnerton and the Masque as a member (you will be given a discounted rate)

What to prepare for the audition:

Once you've completed the form, the song(s) you need to prepare will be emailed to you along with confirmation of your timeslot.

At the audition, you will be asked to do a cold reading of sections from the script.
