A STAGED READING OF A SCRIPTED DIALOGUE BY MIKE VAN GRAAN
The creation of Israel as a Jewish homeland after the holocaust in which Germany slaughtered 6 million Jews is one of the most polarising subjects in the world today. Particularly after more than two years in which the world has witnessed the devastation of Gaza and the killing of tens of thousands of civilians - mostly women and children - as Israel has responded to the attack by Hamas and its allies on 7 October 2023, it is appropriate then to ask ‘Are Jews really safer today than they were on 6 October 2023? What about the rise of Islamophobia as witnessed in the responses to the election of Zohran Mamdani as Mayor of New York? What is the role of Christian Zionism in all of this?’
These questions are at the centre of this scripted dialogue where representatives of the Abrahamic faiths – Islam, Judaism and Christianity – engage these questions and related themes. While the hostilities are not essentially religious, religion plays an important role in how many seek to frame and justify it. The form of the presentation is a scripted panel discussion in a television studio (note: it not a play in the traditional sense) and it will be done as a staged reading with the five readers having scripts in hand.
The reading will be followed by a discussion between the audience and the cast.
Date: Wednesday 18 February 2026
Time: 18:30 for 19:00
Venue: Masque Theatre, Muizenberg

The Return of Elvis du Pisanie
19th to 21st February 2026
THE RETURN OF ELVIS DU PISANIE
Written and directed by Paul Slabolepszy
Performed by Ashley Dowds
A story that moves from pure nostalgia, through extreme heartache, to unbridled joy...The Return of Elvis du Pisanie is all at once - sad, amusing and gloriously uplifting…!
Tag line: Who would have believed that a simple act of switching on a car radio could change the course of your life!?
Eddie du Pisanie - a forty-nine year old East Rand salesman - is retrenched and decides life is no longer worth living. He writes a suicide note to his wife and is about to gas himself in his car in the garage, when he switches on the car radio. The Elvis Presley song he hears does more than take him back 30 years - it recalls an event in his childhood that changed his life forever. Abandoning - for the moment - the idea of suicide, he drives the 200 kilometre journey to the town in which he grew up, to a lamp post opposite the ex-Carlton Bioscope in Can we change our own destinies...? “Elvis” du Pisanie is about to find out...

Hanepoot Brass Band
22nd February 2026
The Hanepoot Brass Band line-up resembles that of the famous Brass Bands of New Orleans, but they uniquely perform the indigenous jazz styles of South Africa, with strong roots in the “goema”, the heartbeat of Cape Town’s own carnival bands, the “Kaapse Klopse”.
Started in 2019 by trombonist, composer, arranger and bandleader Jannie “Hanepoot” van Tonder, The Hanepoot Brass Band is an acoustic brass band comprising 6 horns, banjo and percussion. The band includes experienced professional musicians from all over the Western Cape:
Jannie Hanepoot (from Montagu) on Trombone, Carlton Adams (Elsiesrivier) and Siraaj Allen (Delft) on Trumpets, Simon Bates (Woodstock) on Tenor Sax, Duncan Johnson (Retreat) on Baritone Sax, Zhaun Gorridon (Athlone) on Sousaphone, Nick Turner (Loeriesfontein) on Banjo and Carlo Fabe (Westridge) on Percussion.
Audiences are loving the acoustic sound and the rich South African repertoire, which includes original material as well as dedications to the work of some of our great composers past and present.
Like the bandleader, the band is named after our indigenous sweet “Hanepoot” grape cultivar, found on every kitchen table in the Western Cape, and famous for the unique desert wine it produces.
Expect a passionate and colourful group of musicians playing goema, mbaqanga, marabi and kwela tunes, covering tight arrangements, wild improvisations and everything in between.

An Evening With Special Agent Galactica
28th March 2026
Get ready for a night like no other! We’ve got not one but two shows happening on the same evening.
We kick things off with Special Agent Galactica lip syncing her way through A LADY AND (other people's) MUSIC. After the interval, get ready for some incredible live music with MORE THAN JUST LIPS.
Special Agent Galactica, the pink-haired creation of Jeffrey Johnson (Little Shop of Horrors), makes her South African debut right here, at the Masque!
A LADY AND (other people's) MUSIC is a lip sync “tour de force”, according to the Washington City Paper. It’s a whimsical, music-filled romp through Earth’s songbook delivered in a way that only Special Agent Galactica can. Long before Lip Sync Battle was even a concept, Galactica has been slaying theatre audiences with her precision, wit, timing and talent.
MORE THAN JUST LIPS is a powerhouse live music set from Galactica and her band, Captain Satellite and the Escape Pods - and featuring her backup singers, the Space Cadettes. Audiences can expect a great selection of music ranging from Elton John to Bessie Smith. George Michael to Justin Timberlake. Bernadette Peters to Billie Holliday. And in case you were wondering, Captain Satellite is John McGuiness (Little Shop of Horrors).
“A TOUR DE FORCE! A Lypsinka-caliber performer!” Washington CityPaper
“INTOXICATING! So SPOT-ON that the audience is swept up in her!” The Washington Post
“This agent’s act is special and NOT TO BE MISSED!”. The Washington Blade
