As a community theatre, the Masque is powered by you - your creativity, time and dedication to the arts. This is why we're always on the hunt for new productions to put on our stage.
If you're looking to direct a play, musical or performance piece, please let us know on the form below.
Please note that planning for our production calendar is done at least a year in advance. This means that you will need to be available to direct your production in the following calendar year.

WHAT We're looking FOR
Comedies and Dramas
At the Masque, we love to have an array of different productions hit the stage!
Our audience loves an Agatha Christie, an Alan Ayckbourn or a Neil Simon, for example. They also love it when we put on a great Shakespeare.
From the classics to more contemporary works, we're looking for what makes you tick as a director.
Musicals
From established Broadway productions to entertaining new jukebox musicals, we do them all.
If you're keen to sink your teeth into an existing musical, please include who your musical director and choreographer will be in your proposal.
If you want to add to our tradition of jukebox fairytales, please include a bit about your writing experience in your proposal.
Original work
There's nothing more exciting than exploring brand-new work from local playwrights!
If you have an original script that you have written and would like to see it brought to life, please apply to our Play Reading Programme.
We are currently not accepting original work for production in our main calendar.

What YOU NEED TO KNOW
SELECTION CRITERIA:
There are a number of factors that need to be considered when putting together the calendar each year:

Suitability of the production for the Masque audience

Suitability of the production for the Masque stage and volunteer resources

Potential for profit for the theatre (we always need to ensure that operating costs are covered)

How the production fits with the other productions being considered for the year
AFTER SUBMITTING YOUR PROPOSAL:

The theatre's Head of Programming will be in touch within two weeks of your submission to confirm receipt.

Planning for the 2027 calendar will start in December 2025. Planning for the 2028 calendar will start in December 2026. And so on.
PLEASE NOTE:

Your production will be done as an amateur production and there will be no remuneration for you as the director or for any of the production team members.

You must be based in Cape Town for the full length of the audition, rehearsal and performance period.
